Some Things in the Past Deserve to Make it to the Future
Last year I opened an Instagram account, I have a business Facebook account and since being in business I had to get a website up and running, too. I am all for changing with the world as it changes. When you are in business, you need to keep up in order to give your clients what they want. There is no denying that we are living in a digital age.
There are a few things I am not willing to let fade into the past and feel I must bring these things with me into the future. Printed photographs are at the top of that list.
There is something special about a printed portrait. As a child I always loved to look through photo albums of earlier years and of generations that came before me. I don’t believe it would’ve been the same experience to pull up photos on a computer to reminisce. There is something about being able to physically hold and adore these photographs in your hands.
This is why I am so in love with what I do for my clients. Yes, I do give digital images, but for each image purchased, I also give the image printed and matted. Sometimes clients are resistant to the printing in this digital age...until they see them in person and can touch them with their own hands.
Individual images can be purchased, of course, but what I love the most is my folio box collections. A collection includes a beautiful keepsake box in which all of the matted portraits fit. The box then has several different options for display and the portraits inside are ready to be framed if that is the desire. To feel the weight of the images in this box is something that can only be experienced.
It is in this moment that I hand a client their folio box that they understand why I insist on this being my business model. When the client holds the box like a baby it is my greatest joy of being a photographer (and yes people do this! You may think you wouldn’t but you just watch!)
There are many photographers that will shoot your session and give you all of the images on a cd or usb. In some instances, I can see why that would be appealing and this still has a place in the photography world. That is why I compromise with giving digital images of each image purchased. We all want to share our photos with our loved ones on social media. But I have a very strong belief in the power of print. I want to give my clients the very best I can give them. I want to give them legacy prints to be cherished into the next generation. Less quantity, more quality.
I hope you come to love the power of print as much as I do!
Til Next Time,
